The third term of incumbent President Francesco Ricci Bitti come to an end on 31 December 2024. Ingmar De Vos stood unopposed and was elected by secret ballot for a four-year term, beginning on 1 January 2025. The Belgian has been President of the FEI since 2014, a member of the ASOIF Council since 2019 and also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2017. 

President Francesco Ricci Bitti, who chaired the meeting, said after the election: "Having had the pleasure of working with Ingmar, I know that he has the experience, stamina and human qualities to lead our organisation. It is also great to know that he enjoys the full support of our members, which is the key to success. This is a good day for ASOIF and the Olympic Movement." 

"I am humbled by today's result and would like to express my deep gratitude to the ASOIF for their confidence," said Ingmar De Vos after the election. "I am fully aware that I have big shoes to fill and during my mandate I will make it my mission to further strengthen the role of the ASOIF in the Olympic Movement and to focus on an open and constructive dialogue with the IOC," he added.

The General Assembly also excluded the International Boxing Association (IBA) as an ASOIF member, in accordance with its Statutes. This move follows the CAS decision of 2 April, which rejected the IBA's appeal against the IOC's decision to withdraw the IBA's recognition as the International Federation for Olympic boxing. ASOIF had previously suspended the IBA's full membership rights. 

The ASOIF General Assemblyalso approved a number of amendments to the Statutes, including those aimed at clarifying the start and end dates of Associate Membership. With regard to LA28, the General Assembly granted the Associate Membership to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), World Lacrosse and World Squash, with effect from 1 January 2025. 

The ASOIF members also received personal reports from the Paris 2024 and LA28 Olympic Games Organising Committees. With less than four months to go until Paris 2024, the Organising Committee, led by its President Tony Estanguet, updated the General Assembly on the latest preparations for the Games. 

The focus was on several issues of particular importance to the International Federations, such as venue infrastructure, transport, test events, sports presentation, sustainability considerations and knowledge transfer to future organisers. The next milestone will be the lighting of the Olympic flame in Olympia on 16 April 2024. 

As governance remains a top priority for ASOIF and its members, the delegates were updated on the ongoing fifth review of IF governance, led by ASOIF's Governance Task Force. 

In this iteration, 10 new indicators have been added to the 50 from the fourth edition to ensure that the questionnaire remains up to date and reflects the latest developments in sports governance. The results are expected to be published in June. 

The General Assembly also received updates from the IOC on matters relating to the International Federations and the Olympic Games, the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Testing Agency (ITA).
