Throughout the first day of the competition, the fights continued at a frenetic pace in the first five categories entered, those of the lightweights. In women's -48 kg it all started with the surprise exit of top seeded Italian Assunta Scutto and ended with the victory of Sabina Giliazova (AIN), while 18-year-old Tara Babulfath (Sweden) added a bronze medal to her surprise win at the Baku Grand Slam. 

In the men's -60 kg, things went better for top seed Giorgi Sardalashvili (Georgia), who reached the final but lost there to the home crowd favourite Doston Ruziev. In the women's -52 kg category, Amandine Buchard, who had skipped the Paris Grand Slam, is slowly making her comeback. She defeated the host country's Gulkhayo Juraeva in the final to take the gold medal. 

In the men's -66 kg, Nurali Emomali (Tajikistan) won back-to-back titles in Tashkent. The women's -57kg also produced some upsets, but in the end it was Priscilla Gneto who went home with the gold medal.
