Teenager Amit Elor of the United States has defended her women's 72 kilograms gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade.

Elor, who became the youngest American wrestling world champion last year, defeated Davaanasan Enkh Amar of Mongolia 8-2 in the final.

With 72kg not part of the Olympics, the U23 and junior world champion hoping to cut down to 68kg to compete at Paris 2024.

"That is a challenge for me to figure out which weight is best for my body," she told NBC Sports.

"Growing up, I almost never cut weight. My parents were against it.

"When I was younger, like 12 years old, I would go in a plus weight class and go with kids that were 30, 40 pounds heavier than me.

"I just want to take care of my body and not starve myself, not dehydrate myself."

Zhamila Bakbergenova of Kazakhstan and Miwa Morikawa of Japan claimed the bronze medals.

Bakbergenova defeated Natalia Strzałka of Poland 4-1 for the bronze while got hers with a 4-2 in over Kendra Dacher of France.

Japan continued its domination of women’s events with Akari Fujinami winning the 53 kg title.

She crushed neutral Belarusian athlete Vanesa Kaladzinskaya 10-0 in the final.

Lucía Yépez of Ecuador got the better of Maria Prevolaraki of Greece 10-3 while India's Antim Panghal, competing neutrally, got a massive 16-6 win of Swede Jonna Malmgren for the bronze medals.

Kyrgyzstan and Turkey won the other two titles on offer today with Aisuluu Tynybekova taking the 62kg title while Buse Tosun claimed gold in the 68kg.

For Kyrgyz star Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Tynybekova, it was her third world title, as she triumphed over Sakura Motoki of Japan 4-1.

After two bronze medals at this level, Tosun upgraded to gold by pinning Enkhsaikhany Delgermaa of Mongolia.

Grace Bullen of Norway and Iryna Koliadenko of Ukraine won the 62kg bronze medals by defeating Bilyana Dudova of Bulgaria and Luisa Niemesch of Germany 3-0 and 10-0, respectively.

The final two podium spots in the 68kg belonged to Koumba Larroque of France and Irina Rîngaci of Moldova.

Larroque posted a commanding 10-0 win over Emma Bruntil of the United States while Rîngaci piped Ami Ishii of Japan in a tight match.
