Former Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen made it back-to-back World Triathlon Cup victories as she triumphed in the Czech city of Karlovy Vary, and Morgan Pearson made it an American double.

The 37-year-old Jorgensen earned a first win since her Rio 2016 gold in Valencia last week, having come out of retirement from triathlon this year to target Paris 2024.

The women's race came down to a sprint between her and The Netherlands' Rachel Klamer in the Czech hills, and it was Jorgensen who came out on top.

Both races were held on a challenging course featuring a 1500 metres swim in Lake Rolava, a seven-lap 40.8 kilometres bike leg around the city and a four-lap 10km run to finish.

Jorgensen was around 40 seconds off the pace through transition from the swim, but the groups merged on the second lap of the bike and the eventual winner stayed in a 12-strong pack on to the run.

She upped the pace late in the second lap, with only Klamer able to stay with her.

After a thrilling tussle between the pair, it was Jorgensen first across the finish line in 2hours 3min 51sec, with Klamer four seconds further back.

Marlene Gomez-Göggel rounded off the top three in 2:04:12, despite a 15 second penalty for a helmet violation.

In the men's race, Pearson claimed a hugely impressive first World Cup victory with a dominant display.

Pearson did not look back from midway through the bike leg, when he left his rivals trailing in his wake and made it to the finish line in 1:51:55 unopposed.

Hungary's Márk Dévay edged the battle for silver, clocking 1:53:07 to beat Jonas Schomburg of Germany by three seconds.

Karlovy Vary was the seventh of this year's 14 races on World Triathlon's second-tier circuit, with Tangier in Morocco due to host the next on October 1 after the World Triathlon Championship Finals in the Spanish city of Pontevedra from September 22 to 24.
