A world record time in the women's 200 metres individual medley S11 final for double Paralympic champion Ma Jia represented a blistering beginning to the finals for China.

She finished after 2min 40.10sec to lead a one-two with compatriot Cai Liwen clocking in 3.13 later, while Liesette Bruinsma of The Netherlands rounded out the top three in 2:46.95.

Another world record was smashed later in the day, this time by Guo Jincheng in the men's 200m individual medley SM5 decider.

His remarkable 2:46.55 is the second time he has broken a Championship record in these Championships following his performance in the 50m freestyle. 

Spain's Antoni Ponce Bertran narrowly prevented another Chinese silver as he beat Wang Lichao by 0.50 seconds in 2:50.25.

Guo's triumph was immediately followed up by a podium sweep from his countrywoman He Shenggao, Cheng Jiao, and Lu Dong in the women's 200m individual medley S5.

He won easily in 3:20.76 with Cheng and Lu 8.38 and 9.89 seconds behind, respectively.

Jiang Yuyan also scored her second gold of the Championships with victory in the women's 400m freestyle S6.

Her 5:14.01 finish ensured she added to her 100m win, while Britain's Maisie Summers-Newton and Nora Meister of Switzerland joined her on the podium.

China's golden night elevated them to the top of the medals table.

They have won 14 gold medals, the same number as Italy, but their 14 silvers is twice as many as the European country.
