Double Paralympic champion from Tokyo 2020 Morgan Stickney was the first to make history as she posted a time of 4min 54.28sec in the women's 400 metres freestyle S7 final.

She led an American one-two with Ahalya Lettenberger who finished 27.99 later while Canada's Sabrina Duchesne reached the wall in 5:31.17.

Ami Omer Dadaon, who also took two titles in Japan, then sealed Israel's first gold of the Championships with a remarkable world record time of 1:18.94 in the men's 100m freestyle S4 decider.

He was followed by New Zealander Cameron Lesli and Japan's Takayuki Suzuki 3.62 and 3.97 later, respectively.

Antonio Fantin kept Italy's gold medal tally ticking over as they remain top of the standings from the first day with nine victories.

He beat his own mark in the men's 100m freestyle S6 final from last year's World Championships by 0.67 as he registered a blistering 1:02.98.

The Brazilian duo of Talisson Henrique Glock and Daniel Xavier Mendes made up the rest of the podium in 1:04.73 and 1:05.14 respectively.

Jiang Yuyan powered to victory in the women's 100m freestyle S6 final and set a new world best time of 1:10.86. 

Ukraine's Anna Hontar then beat Switzerland's Nora Meister to the silver medal in 0.97.

Hontar's compatriot Danylo Chufarov then smashed the men's 100m butterfly S11 world record by more than a second, registering 1:00.66.

He was followed by second and third placed Keiichi Kimura and Uchu Tomita of Japan.
