Hosts Angola were among the four nations who sealed an automatic place in the quarter-finals at the men's International Basketball Federation (FIBA) AfroCan in Luanda.

Angola won the decisive final Group B match 58-47 against Nigeria at the Arena Kilamba, following on from a 72-55 victory against Mali to start their tournament.

The hosts turned the ball over 30 times, but Glofate Buiamba contributed 13 points to help them beat Nigeria.

Angola are set to face Mozambique or Rwanda in the quarter-finals, while Nigeria face Gabon for the right to play defending champions the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali could still reach the last eight against Tunisia if they beat Ivory Coast.

Tunisia are also in the bottom half of the draw after winning Group C through a 67-61 victory against Rwanda and a 67-52 triumph over Morocco.

DR Congo started the defence of their title with two wins 70-63 against Cameroon and 77-58 against Mozambique to top Group D.

Evariste Shonganya averaged a tournament-high 22.5 points from the first two matches.

Kenya were the other group winners to automatically advance to the quarter-finals, helped by a 62-52 victory against Ivory Coast in the first match of the tournament.

They lost their second match 66-63 to Gabon, but the three teams in Group A each finished with one win after Ivory Coast beat Gabon 62-52 and Kenya topped the standings on goal difference.

The inaugural FIBA AfroCon was held in Mali's capital Bamako in 2019 after the FIBA AfroBasket moved from a biennial to quadrennial event.

Teams can only field African-based players with the exception of two who can ply their trade elsewhere.
