Australia topped the medal table at the Oceania Karate Federation’s Senior and Under-21 Championships held in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Australian representatives claimed a total of 40 medals including 19 golds.

Australia’s successful performance in Christchurch started in the category of female kata, where Marijana Dimoska defeated teammate Meezan Dickinson and won her first continental title by a score of 23.9 to 23.6.

Meanwhile, in the female kumite under-50 kilograms category, the all-Australian final was won by Cecilia Tran who beat team-mate and defending champion Jamie Kelly-Hoare 5-0.

Also involving two Australian competitors in the final, the female kumite under-55kg category went to Georgie Lawrence, who won her second consecutive title following a 3-2 triumph over Ally Lourensz.

In female kumite under-61kg, Kristian Mah of Australia perpetuated her domination of the category as she won her fourth title by beating teammate Iris Webb 5-1.

Meanwhile, Mandy Yap of Australia took her second consecutive gold in the category of female kumite under-68kg with a 5-1 triumph over Juliet Mclachlan.

Hannah Sullivan wrapped up the gold medals for Australia in senior female kumite with her victory in the female kumite over-68kg against team-mate Olivia Clifford.

The titles in female team kata and female team kumite categories went to Australia and New Zealand respectively.

Australia’s list of gold medals continued in the male kumite division as Richard Basckin won the crown in male kumite under-60kg over Fiji’s Sandip Pala 3-0.

In male kumite under-67kg, Rory Attridge of Australia surprised teammate and defending champion Declan Squire 3-1 to win his first senior continental title.

Duran Mitchel of Australia extended his domination of male kumite under-75kg as he took his second continental gold in a row following a 4-1 victory over Raukawa Jefferies of New Zealand.

The all-Australian final in the male kumite under-84kg was claimed by Yonatan Freund, who won his first title in senior categories after edging Max Noble by "hantei" or decision at 0-0.

Daniel Tielen completed the list of golds for Australia in senior male kumite divisions with his convincing triumph 8-0 over New Caledonia’s Brandon Rambas in male kumite over-84kg.

Oceania’s powerhouse nation of New Zealand celebrated the gold medal in male kata as Isaac Hoshi added a second consecutive title.

The representative of the host nation beat Shaun Yuen of Australia by 24.6 to 23.8 points.

The titles in male team kata and male team kumite went to New Zealand and Australia respectively.
