The Italian Taekwondo Federation (FITA) has announced a new partnership with sports clothing supplier Erreà after signing one-year contract.

The Italian-based company has been named as the FITA’s official technical sponsor on a deal that is expected to run until 2024.

The agreement came into effect before the recent World Taekwondo Championships in Baku where Italy struck gold courtesy of Simone Alessio’s in the men’s under-80-kilogram.

Erreà is expected to provide clothing for the Italian athletes during important events over the next 12 months, with the company vowing to guarantee "maximum attention to detail, comfort and optimal performance".

"We thank FITA for their trust in Erreà," said Erreà President Angelo Gandolfi.

"We are convinced that this partnership will mark an important chapter in the history of Italian Taekwondo.

"We share the common goal of helping athletes achieve maximum performance, make their dreams come true, and make Italy proud around the world."

"This partnership with an Italian brand makes us proud and represents an important step for the Azzurri taekwondo.

"Together we will share passion, commitment, determination and loyalty, values that have always characterised Italian taekwondo.

"Thanks to Erreà for the trust placed in us in supporting our movement."

Italy has achieved four taekwondo medals at the Olympics since the sport made its debut on the official programme at Sydney 2000.

Mauro Sarmiento secured Italy’s first medal in taekwondo with silver at Beijing 2008 before adding bronze at London 2012, both in the 80 kilograms category.

London 2012 also saw Carlo Molfetta make history by becoming the first Italian taekwondo competitor to clinch gold when he won the over-80kg.

After failing to pick up a medal at Rio 2016, Italy sealed gold at Tokyo 2020 courtesy of Vito Dell’Aquila’s success in the 58kg category.
