The Ivorian Taekwondo Federation has appointed 15 ambassadors to promote female athletes in the country.

The appointments were made at the National Women's Open tournament which was held over two days in Abidjan.

All of those appointed come from different sectors of life, including business, journalism and law.

Their primary mission will be to promote and encourage women to take up taekwondo.

Both kyorugi and poomsae taekwondo were contested at the Women's Open.

Ivory Coast has enjoyed success in women's taekwondo, in particular through Ruth Gbagbi.

She won the world title in the women's under-62 kilograms division at the 2017 World Championships in Muju in South Korea.

Gbagbi also won Olympic bronze medals at under-67kg at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

The 29-year-old won another bronze at the World Championships which finished earlier this month in Baku.
