Fortaleza has been announced as the host of this year's Brazilian Super Taekwondo Championship.

The country's fifth largest city will welcome Brazil's best taekwondo athletes between August 16 and 20, at the Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium.

State teams contest the Super Championship, with each set to name two athletes per weight division across the adult, master, under-21, junior, cadet and child categories.

There are expected to be more than 1,500 participants in all with places at the Grand Slam tournament available to be won.

This event will help to select the Brazilian national team for 2024.

"We are very happy that Fortaleza will host the 2023 Brazilian Taekwondo Championships," said Ozires Pontes, a municipal secretary for sport and leisure.
