Fan zones are set to be created in towns and cities across the Małopolska region for this year’s European Games.

The Kraków-Małopolska 2023 Organising Committee has revealed plans to secure areas where fans can gather and enjoy the action.

Czarny Dunajec, Trzebinia, Gorlice and Miechów are among 12 municipalities that are due to stage fan zones during the Games.

The Polish organisers revealed that the zones will be in locations where the competition will not be held but "will do everything to ensure that fans staying in the zones will not be board".

Fans are expected to have the chance to follow the Games on big fans while there is also set to be a catering zone, a children’s zone and an areas to relax on deckchairs.

"We will integrate, have fun and encourage fair-play competition among our residents and visitors," said Miechów Mayor Dariusz Marczewski.

Łukasz Smółka, Deputy Marshal of the Małopolska Region, added: "These will be places where we will all come together in the framework of sports."

According to Kraków-Małopolska 2023, the fan zones will be subsidised from the budget of the Małopolska region.

"We just want the weather to be good so we can spend this time together," said Stanislaw Banach, head of the Podegrodzie Municipality.

"Not at home, but in a place where there will be more people."

Kraków-Małopolska 2023 is set to take place from June 21 to July 2, with nearly 7,000 athletes from 48 countries expected to compete across 29 sports.

It is due to be the third edition of the European Games, after Baku 2015 and Minsk 2019.
