Azerbaijan hopes to match or better its medal-winning performance at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics when it takes part at Paris 2024 next year.

Speaking during a visit by members of the Azerbaijan National Paralympic Committee (ANPC) to the Paris 2024 headquarters, President Ilgar Rahimov said the goal was to repeat or beat the Tokyo total of 19 medals - 14 gold, one silver and four bronze – and to finish in the top 10.

Rahimov, who is also vice-president of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), provided detailed information about the development of the Paralympic Movement in Azerbaijan, as well as its achievements and future work, according to Azer News.

He added that the Azerbaijan national team is expected to be represented by 50 athletes in eight sports at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Rahimov also offered information about the activities of IBSA and discussed the conditions to be created for the participation of visually impaired athletes in the Games.

Sophie Lorant, head of international relations for the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, said that the expansion of relations with the ANPC was positive for both sides.

Lorant spoke about Azerbaijan's "great contributions" to the Paralympic Movement and emphasised the importance of sharing this experience with other countries.

Jean Minier, sports director of the French National Paralympic Committee, added his appreciation for the development of the Paralympic Movement in Azerbaijan.

He also said that the French Paralympic Committee was interested in exchanging experiences with the Azerbaijan body.

During the meeting, the members of the Organising Committee delivered a presentation on Paris 2024 and the parties exchanged views on future cooperation.
