Klæbo, the overall World Cup leader, continued his run of success as he finished 0.73 seconds in front of his compatriot Erik Valnes.

Federico Pellegrino of Italy took third place, as he finished 1.18 seconds behind Klæbo.

"It's always nice to win in Sweden, especially with all these spectators cheering for us," said Klæbo.

"I'm a little bit sad we didn't have a Swedish guy in the final, that could probably have been more fun, but I am still really satisfied, for sure."

"It was a lot of fun, especially in the final there."

Speaking about the plan to go downhill first Klaebo added: "Everybody started at the top and nobody wanted to go first downhill.

"It was a challenging one but these sprints in Falun normally are really tactical and I think we saw that today.

"That was my tactic, but I ended up being in the front a little bit too early but I tried to push everything from there and it worked out quite well."

Klæbo leads both the sprint standings and the overall standings, with 1,034 and 2,370 points respectively.

On the women's side, Skistad claimed first place, edging past the sprint world champion Jonna Sundling of Sweden, as she finished 0.34 seconds ahead of her, with Maja Dahlqvist, another Swede, taking third and finishing five seconds behind.

"It was very fun. It's a hard course so I am happy to win," Skistad said.

"Jonna is very strong so I'm just happy."

In the overall standings, Norway's Tiril Udnes Weng remaining first with 1,834 points, with American Jessie Diggins in second with 1,732, and Kerrttu Niskanen in third with 1,632.

The next Cross-Country World Cup event is due to be held in Tallinn, Estonia on Tuesday (March 21).
