The European Taekwondo Union (ETU) has added Gerd Kohlhofer to its ruling Council.

Sakis Pragalos, the President of the ETU, had the power to make an appointment to the body and chose to add the German.

Kohlhofer has been the treasurer of the German Taekwondo Union (DTU) for 25 years.

He is also the President of the Bavarian Taekwondo Union.

"Your valued contribution to taekwondo in Germany and Europe in the last decades has been very much appreciated by me," said Pragalos.

"You have dedicated much time and effort into our beloved sport with great success.

"Therefore, with the power vested in me as President of the European Taekwondo Union and under article 6.7.2 of our statutes, it is my utmost pleasure that I can announce that I appoint you as a Council member of the ETU." 

Two other Germans already sit on the ETU Council.

DTU President Stefan Klawiter is an ETU vice-president, while Antonio Barbarino is secretary general.

Germany's Park Soo Nam is Honorary President of the ETU, while Edmund Schramm is an honorary member.
