Maluki, who is also the NOC-K deputy President, was named by Ababu Namwamba, the sports cabinet secretary for Kenya, at the ceremony at the Kenya National Library Services, attended by representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K).

"I am very pleased that NOC-K has accelerated preparations for Paris 2024," said Namwamba, according to Kenyan publication The Star.

"I'm glad on behalf of the Government of Kenya to receive the leadership team that will be part of the Steering Committee for Team Kenya in Paris."

Maluki succeeds NOC-K second vice-president Waithaka Kioni in the position, who was Chef de Mission at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Former tennis player and Tennis Kenya secretary-general Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani is the chief executive of the team for Paris 2024, while James Ondiege has been appointed chief medical officer and Dimmy Kisalu as team manager.

Kisalu is the assistant treasurer of Athletics Kenya.

NOC-K President Paul Tergat stated the team will be in charge of all operations and logistics for Paris 2024.

"When there is a lapse in the management of the game, it always hits back at us," said Tergat.

"So we want to ensure that those we select to manage the team are up to the task."

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 2024.

Kenya's best Olympic Games were at Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016, winning six gold medals in each.

Of the nation's 113 Olympic medals, 106 have come in athletics, with the other seven being in boxing.
