Tom Boon scored five goals to help the country finish top of Pool B, with the superior goal difference being enough to beat Germany to top spot in India.

The Olympic champions could not break through in the first quarter, but soon into the second got the opening through Cédric Charlier.

By half-time, Boon scored a hat-trick in just over seven minutes.

In the last quarter, Kentaro Fukuda got Japan a consolation, before Belgium added three goals in six minutes.

Boon got two more while Sébastien Dockier contributed too.

With a goal difference advantage of eight goals over Germany, their opponents had to record a major victory over South Korea in the late match.

Niklas Wellen looked to push for a big win, scoring a hat-trick after three quarters, with Jang Jong-hyun getting the only consolation for South Korea in that period.

Gonzalo Peillat added a fourth for Germany, heading into the final 15 minutes.

There, Germany pushed towards the goal difference, with three goals in three minutes from Justus Weigand, captain Mats Grambusch and Moritz Ludwig, while Jang got a late second for South Korea, as the match ended 7-2 to Germany.

Australia finished top of Pool A by thrashing South Africa 9-2.

Blake Govers, who got a vital late equaliser against Argentina in the previous match, got the opener after four minutes, but South Africa levelled four minutes after that through Nqobile Ntuli.

The goals started to flood in for Australia from then on, with Thomas Craig putting them back in the lead before Govers got his second.

Govers added two more within 20 minutes, with Jake Harvie and Nathan Ephraums making it 7-1 at half-time. 

Jeremy Hayward and Timothy Brand made it nine, before Tevin Kok got a consolation goal for South Africa.

A dramatic end to the other match in the pool saw Argentina get a last-minute equaliser to take second and a better seed in the cross-overs.

Nicolás Keenan gave Argentina the lead after three minutes, with Etienne Tynevez equalising in the 11th.

Eight goals would be scored between the teams in the second-half, with Nicolás Della Torre putting the South Americans back in front for just two minutes.

From there, they would not lead the match again.

Victor Charlet scored two goals in three minutes, only for Della Torre's second to level proceedings.

Charlet secured his hat-trick, only for Argentina to make it 4-4 through Martín Ferreiro in the 51st minute.

France looked to have the match won with a 60th-minute penalty stroke from Charlet, but a penalty corner in the same minute allowed Della Torre to get the equaliser, with the match ending 5-5.
