Germany claimed the team relay and doubles gold at the International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup in Whistler.

Two-time Olympic champion Felix Loch and world champion Julia Taubitz and the double of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken crossed the line in 2:04sec.

The was the country’s 44th victory in the event.

"The Latvians were quite strong, they presented well," said German head coach Norbert Loch.

"But my team was able to counter."

Second-paced Latvia finished 0.147 behind the winners.

Their team comprised of relay bronze medallists from Beijing 2022 Roberts Plūme, Mārtiņš Bots, Kristers Aparjods and European champion Elina Ieva Vitola.

The Austrian team of Wolfgang Kindl, Madeleine Egle, Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf claimed the bronze medal after finishing 0.727 after the winners.

Eggert and Benecken also helped their country to another victory by claiming the doubles gold.

In what was their 52nd win, the duo clocked 1:16.

There was more reason for cheer for the Germans as teammates Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt finished second, 0.051 later.

The third place went to Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf of Austria.

The winners of the season opener at home in Innsbruck clocked 1:16.
