Paula Robinson has been appointed general counsel for the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee.

Robinson was an advisor to the Queensland Government during the bidding process and holds various roles in sports administration.

These include being vice-president of Football Queensland, chairing Tennis Australia's National Gender Equality Task Force and chairing the Queensland Academy of Sport Advisory Board.

Robinson, who established boutique law firm Ailier, was also head of legal for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

"I'm so pleased that Paula will be guiding the Organising Committee through the legal landscape for Brisbane 2032, while also leading core corporate, procurement and rights protection functions, which will all be critical to the successful delivery of Brisbane 2032," President Andrew Liveris wrote when announcing the appointment.

"Another critical appointment in the establishment of our Brisbane 2032 team."

Brisbane is the first city to be awarded an Olympics under the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) new process whereby a Future Host Commission engages with interested parties and recommends a host, as opposed to a traditional bidding race.

One of the side effects of the change is that much of the bid documentation previously published does not exist.

A host city contract signed by the IOC, Brisbane City Council, the Australian Olympic Committee and Queensland's premier has been published.

While the Olympic and Paralympic Games are still a decade away, a row over the funding split between state and federal authorities has already emerged.

Legal challenges to redevelopment work at the Gabba - due to stage the Opening Ceremony - are also likely, should the plans - which Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is warning are already well above the cost estimate - get the green light.

Meanwhile Football Queensland President Ben Richardson has hailed Robinson's hiring by the Organising Committee.

"Paula's appointment is a fitting acknowledgement of her outstanding achievements within the sports industry, which include leading the delivery of the legal and brand protection functions for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 during her time as Partner of MinterEllison," Richardson said.

"It is wonderful to have an experienced individual of Paula’s calibre contributing to our game here in Australia in her vice-president role at Football Queensland, and we look forward to supporting her in this exciting new venture."
