It proved a good day for world champions in Budva, Montenegro, as the line-up for the European Women's Boxing Championships semi-finals became clearer.

Turkey’s heavyweight Şennur Demir, who won World Championship gold in Istanbul earlier this year, continued her course towards a European title by stopping Slovakia’s Andrea Sirkova early in the second round of their quarter-final contest.

At the same weight, Daria Kozorez had become the first Moldovan woman to reach a World Youth Championship final when she took silver in 2021.

Kozorez demonstrated that she was ready to step up to senior level as she reached the last four with a convincing points victory over Zaira Garcia Garay of Spain in her quarter-final.

Ireland’s World and Commonwealth gold medallist Amy Broadhurst is targeting a third major title in 2022 and is certain of a bronze medal at the very least in the light welterweight category after a second-round stoppage against Serbia's Milena Malovic.

In the featherweights, her Irish team-mate and fellow Commonwealth Games gold medallist Michaela Walsh has an opportunity to avenge her Olympic defeat against Italy’s Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Irma Testa.

Walsh outpointed Romania’s Claudia Nechila with a majority 4-1 decision to advance to the semi-finals.

Testa was a unanimous points winner over Poland’s Sandra Kruk.

Armenia’s European youth silver medallist Ani Hovsepyan just missed out on a medal at the World Championships earlier in the year, but is certain of at least bronze in the light-welterweight category after she stopped Hungary’s Regina Lakos.

Meanwhile Ukraine’s veteran Tetiana Kob, who won her European title back in 2009, swept past Chrystoula Plea of Greece with a unanimous decision in the flyweight category.
