Colombia and Argentina came out on top in the men's canoe sprint final at the South American Games in Asunción.

In the men’s C1 1000 metres, Alejandro Rodriguez Ramirez bagged the gold medal for Colombia with a timing of 4mn 11.37sec.

Edward Luciano Gregorio Paredes Padron of Venezuela finished second 4:24.04 while the bronze medal went to hosts Brazil thanks to Isaquias Queiroz Dos Santos, who crossed the line in 4:29.02.

In the men’s K1 1000m, Olympian Agustin Vernice of Argentina bagged the title in 3:51.29.

Silver and Bronze medal went to Matias Valentin Otero Ezcurra of Uruguay and Vagner Junior Souta of Brazil.

Ezcurra posted a time of 3:54.93 while Souta managed to clock 3:58.55.

Meanwhile, the hosts bagged a bonze medal in the field hockey after easing past Peru 4-0.

Andre Luiz Patrocinio Couto scored a brace while goals from Adam Imer and Joaquin Eduardo Lopez sealed the victory for Brazil.

Judo medals were also decided following the quarter-finals in the women’s under-48 kilograms and  under-57kg.

Mary Dee Vargas Law of Chile, Gabriel Alejandra Navarez of Paraguay, Ingrid Keisy Perafan Altamirano of Argentina and Colombian Erika Andrea Lasso Arias are through to the semi-finals in the under-48kg category.

Meanwhile, Gabriella Limeira Gonzaga of Brazil, Ecuador’s Astrid Carolina Gavidia Bustos, Argentinian Brisa Candela Gomez and Marian Beatriz Flores Arrese of Peru qualified in the under-57kg class.

The South American Games is scheduled to conclude on Saturday (October 15).
