Romania claimed 13 gold medals at the AETF European Championships ©ITF

Romania finished top of the medal table in the Senior and Junior All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation (AETF) European Championships in Poreč in Croatia after securing 13 gold medals.

There were 593 athletes from 28 countries competing in the event that took place on six rings, and the Championships were labelled as a huge success by the Organising Committee as they took place against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Romanians also added seven silvers and 16 bronze medals to their tally while Norway finished second on eight golds, four silvers, and 16 bronzes.

Poland finished third in the overall medal classification after securing seven gold medals, 16 silvers and 15 bronzes.

It was the organisation's first major event under the stewardship of its new Board of Directors and President Leo Oros-Duek.

The AETF Congress was also held during the Championships where all delegates representing 29 countries voted for Tadeusz Loboda to be named as Honorary President of the body.

Cluj Napoca in Romania was voted to host the next edition of the European Championships, scheduled to be held from April 25 to 30 2023.

"Following all previous activities of the AETF leaders the realisation of this event was big success in every aspect including accommodation facilities, venue, security, care for sponsors, Congress arrangement, attention to VIP guests etc," read a statement from the International Taekwon-Do Federation.

"The Board of Directors of AETF would like to express sincere gratitude to the organisers of the Championships Master Slavko Jereb and Master Hasan Ibric for the excellent organisation of the event in all levels and for putting emphasis in all details."
