France’s Alexis Hanquinquant and Spain’s Susana Rodriguez will be returning to Japan to seek further success as the new season begins.

Hanquinquant was crowned men’s PTS4 champion at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, with the Frenchman adding the title to his World Championship success.

He will expect to face competition from Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Hideki Uda, with the Japanese athlete seeking to impress at his home Para Triathlon Series event.

Brazil’s Jorge Luis Fonseca will also be a contender in the race.

Rodriguez triumphed in the women’s PTVI race at the Paralympic Games, alongside her guide Sara Loehr.

The Spanish star could face competition from Canada’s Jessica Tuomela.

United States’ Kyle Coon, Australia’s Jonathan Goerlach, Spain’s Jose Garcia and Ukraine’s Anatolii Varfolomieiev will feature in the men’s competition.

Rio 2016 Paralympic champion and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Grace Norman of the US is the favourite for victory in the women’s PTS5 race, with Ukraine’s Alisa Kolpakchy also among the starters.

Britain’s Tokyo 2020 silver medallist George Peasgood will face the challenge of Brazil’s Ronan Cordeiro and Carlos Rafael Viana in the men’s race.

Brazil’s Jessica Ferreira, the Netherlands’ Margret Ijdema and Canada’s Leanne Taylor are expected to contest the medals in the women’s PTWC competition.

The men’s wheelchair race could see a battle between Australia’s Nic Beveridge, the Netherlands’ Brendan Bischoff, Japan’s Jumpei Kimura and the United States’ Howie Sanborn.

Athletes will have to complete a 750 metres swim in the harbour in Yokohama, before a 20-kilometre bike section through the Japanese city.

Races will conclude with a three-lap five-kilometre run, while wheelchair races will complete a single lap.

Montreal in Canada and Swansea in Wales are also scheduled to host Para Triathlon Series events this season.
