Egypt's Noureldin Karim and Haydy Morsy triumphed in the mixed team relay as the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup in Budapest came to a close.

The Egyptian pair scored a total of 1,350 points across four events to top the table ahead Róbert Kasza and Rita Erdős of Hungary, the host nation.

Kasza and Erdős fell just short after amassing 1,311 points, while Duilio Carrillo and Catherine Mayran of Mexico rounded out the top three with 1,304 points.

Karim and Morsy began their campaign with a useful second-place finish in the fencing round after racking up 30 wins for 238 points, behind only Italians Daniele Colasanti and Alice Rinaudo who were awarded 241 points for 31 wins.

The Egyptians plummeted down the standings with a ninth-place finish in the swimming event.

Samuel Curry and Charlie Follett of Britain won the discipline but narrowly missed out on third place overall as they recorded 1,292 points.

Karim and Morsy then swept up victories in riding and the laser-run to put swimming disappointment in their wake and clinch the gold medal.

The pair scored a leading 284 points in the equestrian discipline ahead of Carillo and Mayran's 274.

Victory was confirmed for Karim and Morsy as they finished the laser run in just 12min 55sec for 525 points.

The next UIPM World Cup is set to take place in Albena in Bulgaria from May 10 to 15.

Before then, a final recommendation on the new discipline to replace riding is expected to be tabled at an Executive Board meeting tomorrow.

The UIPM's Fifth Discipline Working Group - chaired by President Klaus Schormann - has been in Budapest to watch the World Cup event.
