Tartu in Estonia is set to host its first Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix event for almost two years following the cancellation of the 2021 event due to COVID-19.

Approximately 700 athletes from 24 countries will take to the University of Tartu Sports Hall for the Miss Valentine tournament.

Belarus' Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Alina Harnasko headlines the senior competition and will be the favourite to secure victory following her 102.700-point performance in the Japanese capital.

Russia's Youth Olympic Games gold medallist Darja Trubnikova was set to compete but has withdrawn following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Her compatriots Maria Pobedushkina, Anastasia Guzenkova and Alexandra Skubova have also pulled out, although no official reasoning has been given.

Host nation Estonia is due to be represented by Melany Keler, Polina Hardikova and Kristin Frey in the senior category.

The first group are scheduled to perform in the senior all-around contest tomorrow before the second group are due to close out the first day of competition.

Sunday (February 27) is then due to stage the final.

Also in Tartu will be divisions for junior athletes, born between 2007 and 2009, pre-juniors born in 2010 and 2011, children, born in 2012 and 2013 and "mini" who are born in either 2014 or 2015.

Despite the withdrawal of senior Russian athletes, Dariana Novikova, Alina Semenova, Aleksandra Bobkova and Milana Semenova are due to compete in the youth categories for the country.
