Dina, the reigning world champion and all-around silver medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has the best total score following hoop and ball qualifiers at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace.

The 23-year-old from Russia scored 36.85 points for her ball routine - the best in the field - and only her sister bettered the 36.70 scored with the hoop.

European all-around champion Arina Averina scored 37.15 points with the hoop and 34.80 with the ball, to sit 1.60 points back in total.

Only 17-year-old Lala Kramarenko could break the Averina monopoly on the top two places, earning 35.05 points for her ball routine.

The top five with both pieces of apparatus were all Russian.

Jelizaveta Polstjanaja, an 18-year-old from Latvia, was the top-performing athlete from outside of the host nation, scoring 31.50 on hoop and 31.20 with the ball.

Clubs and ribbon qualifying is scheduled tomorrow, before finals on Sunday (February 20).

This is the first competition the Averina twins having taken part in since a new code of points came into force.
