Woolworths has agreed to a three-year deal to become the naming rights partner of NetSetGo, a Netball Australia initiative for girls and boys aged five and 10.

The support from the High Street retail chain will give greater opportunities for children in Australia to take up the country’s biggest female team sport.

The programme, which is anticipating its 600,000th participant, allows children to learn the basics of netball, build a better lifestyle and make friends.

This partnership is a part of Woolworths’ "Pick Fresh, Play Fresh" scheme that aims to inspire healthy eating habits through sport in Australia.

The supermarket has a history of providing to Australia's netball communities, with $1.1 million (£815,000/€977,000) in grants being handed to over 285 netball clubs.

These community grants, and their role as the official supermarket partner of Netball Australia, its members and Suncorp Super Netball clubs, will continue in parallel to their commitment to NetSetGo.

"We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Netball Australia with the aim to inspire current and future players to pick fresh and play fresh," Andrew Hicks, Woolworths chief marketing officer said.

"Whether it’s refuelling between quarters with freshly cut oranges or replenishing energy with bananas post-game, eating fresh and healthy food is essential for children to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

"As the biggest female team sport in Australia, we’re proud to support NetSetGo and look forward to the launch of the 2022 season."

Australia has persistently ben a top competitor in netball with the national team regularly winning international trophies.

They have won gold in the Commonwealth Games on three of a possible seven occasions and have come runners-up three other times.
