After a slow start allowed Lewis to win the first set, Anderson produced a sensational comeback, winning the second, third and fourth sets on his way to a dominant victory.

The Scot, who won the world title in 2015 and 2016, lost just one leg in the final three sets against the 2011 and 2012 champion.

The sixth seed will face the winner of England's Ian White and Chris Landman of The Netherlands.

Earlier in the day, Northern Ireland's 22nd seed Daryl Gurney dumped England's Ricky Evans out in the only second-round match of the afternoon session.

In the three first-round matches, England's Chas Barstow beat Canada's John Norman Jr 3-1, Ireland's Steve Lennon won 3-1 against Latvia's Madars Razma and Landman earned a 3-0 win over Scott Mitchell of England.

There were also three first-round ties in the evening session.

Ireland's William O'Connor squeezed past Danny Lauby Jr of the United States 3-2, England's Ryan Meikle beat Germany's teenage sensation, Fabian Schmutzler, 3-0, who is only 16 years old, and Ron Meulenkamp of The Netherlands beat four-time women's world champion Lisa Ashton of England 3-0.

Tomorrow's action includes the beginning of England's Peter Wright's campaign, who won the title in 2020.
