Olympic silver medallist Marlen Reusser of Switzerland won the second stage of the Holland Ladies Tour with victory in today's time trial.

Reusser moved into the general classification lead after demonstrating her time trial prowess on the 17 kilometres stage in Gennep.

The Alé BTC Ljubljana rider, who took silver in the time trial at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, leads Dutch time trial specialist Ellen van Dijk by 12 seconds in the race for the Holland Ladies Tour title.

Trek-Segafredo's Van Dijk was 18 seconds behind Reusser, who completed the course in 20min 42sec.

Dutch cyclist Chantal van den Broek-Blaak, who represents Team SD Worx, was third, a further 23 seconds adrift.

"You never know what's happening," Reusser, who suffered a crash during yesterday's opening stage, said.

"You never know how strong you are or the others are and so it's really a big honour to be the fastest today.

"I'm so happy.

"The night was a bit difficult because I have my skin away everywhere.

"But one funny thing is that people texted me [saying] it's no problem, because I destroyed my race suit yesterday, people said, ‘tomorrow you're gonna wear the TT suit and then hopefully the yellow jersey so you don't need another race suit.’

"I hope it’s like this."

The Women's WorldTour race is due to continue with stage three, a 125.9km route from Stramproy to Weert, on what is expected to be another day for the sprinters tomorrow.
