Argentina staged its first Alpine competition since 2019 with multiple events in slalom and giant slalom disciplines in Cerro Castor.

The event was run by the Argentine Federation of Ski and Mountaineering (FASA) at the Ushuaia Ski Resort in Tierra del Fuego as six races for men and women took place.

"We are extremely happy to start our racing calendar 2021, after no races at all during 2020," said Magdalena Kast, FASA President.

"Great achievement to have made possible moving every resource and athletes down to Ushuaia, so the races could have been organized.

"We hope and look forward that every foreign athlete that wishes to come down to our country to race, can as soon as possible get their authorizations to do so and thus start the South American Cup circuit."

The competition was primarily staged to offer Argentinian athletes the chance to compete for places on the national team at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The country was forced to cancel events in La Hoya, Perito Moreno and Catedral due to a lack of snow.

FASA's next competitions are planned from September 13 to 19, once again in Cerro Castor.

The events will be subject to the participation of Chilean athletes who were not able to attend the recent meet because of COVID-19 restrictions.
