The International Savate Federation (FISav) has confirmed the election of the organisation’s new Athletes' Commission following a meeting in Weiz.

The meeting in Austria took place alongside the World Combat Championships, where four combat athletes were elected to the Athletes' Commission.

Spain’s Ruben Batan Alvarez, Serbia’s Kristina Dzolic and Olivier Lafleur of Mauritius were elected for the first time, while the Russian Savate Federation’s Narek Babadzanian earned re-election.

The quartet complete the 12-member Athletes' Commission.

Britain’s Morgan Alexander, Mauritius' Aki Bhantooa, Mexico’s Leonardo Carade, Tunisia’s Ahlem Grisset, Germany’s Nicole Holzmann, Iran’s Amini Mahnaz, Switzerland’s Leo Maillard and Morocco’s Amine Ziani also serve on the body.

The commission is tasked with representing the voice of the athlete in savate and the canne combat discipline, with the chair having held a voting position on the FISav Board since 2014.

The FISav Board has now agreed to give the Athletes' Commission two voting positions to ensure a wider range of views represented.

One position will be held by a female athlete, with the other taken by a male.

Alexander currently serves as the Athletes’ Commission chair, with the male position on the main FISav Board yet to be determined.

FISav President Julie Gabriel joined Officials Commission chair Maja Odzic and Board member Miguel Bordera in participating during the Athletes' Commission’s assembly.

The trio participated in a question and answer session, with topics including the promotion of savate on social media and proposed changes to the learning centre on the FISav website.

FISav also has a Savate and Canne Athletes Forum on Facebook.

Savate is a French combat sport that combines the use of hands and feet, and is often referred to as French kickboxing.
