Anna Gaul and the Sigauri brothers were among the champions at The Central German Championships, the German Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GEMMAF)'s first regional amateur tournament of 2021.

More than 50 competitors entered the tournament in Göttingen across six divisions.

In the flyweight category, the sole women’s division of the tournament, International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) standout Gaul added yet another medal to her already impressive collection as Tanja Huth and Onhintz de Olano Dietrich rounded out the top three.

The Randori Pro Berlin fighter started competing in IMMAF competitions in 2018.

Since then, she has won two European gold medals, a junior world bronze medal and a junior world gold medal.

In the men's divisions, athletes from Choke gym dominated the medals table, securing three out of the six available gold medals.

Elberd and Adam Sigauri along with Thommy Trân took home the gold for their gym in the bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight classes respectively.

The Sigauris both secured submissions in their semi-final bouts.

Elberd followed that up with a knockout win in the final while Adam outscored his opponent.

David Piechaczek in the men's middleweight and welterweight Lukas Maier were triumphant in the remaining gold medal fights.

Each of them had to overcome talented athletes in their divisions to get the win.

Maier looked strong in his bouts by exhibiting a wide array of strikes and picking his shots well.

The championships were livestreamed and were viewed by thousands, suggesting a bright future for mixed martial arts in Germany.

The competition marked the beginning of GEMMAF's competitive calendar for 2021.

The German Open Championships is the next event and is set to take place in Berlin on September 25.

Athletes may have their sights set on an even bigger prize, however, as the European and Junior European Open Championships are scheduled for August 16 in Kazan in Russia.
