The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) is organising an Olympic Festival to coincide with Tokyo 2020, offering children the chance to try out new sports, meet Olympians and follow the Games.

Running from August 4 to 6 at the Olympic Stadium, the festival headlines the festivities the SOC will be running in Stockholm during the Olympics.

There will also be an Olympic exhibition for a month Stockholm Central Station - which is already underway.

Project manager Frida Nevalainen has encouraged fans to "come and join us at the Olympic Stadium and we will fix the Olympic atmosphere", after it was announced that spectators would not be allowed at Olympic venues in Tokyo this summer.

The SOC is building a festival area, complete with restaurants and big screens, that will comply with coronavirus restrictions.

"Here you get the chance to try out Olympic sports, challenge friends and family in competitions, meet Olympians and celebrate the Olympic Games together," added Nevalainen.

"It is fun for all ages and completely free."

There will also be opportunities to try out various Olympic sports in Kungsträdgården and Skeppsbron in the Swedish capital between July 23 and August 2.

The Olympic Festival is a concept set to be implemented in 11 countries on four continents. 

Australia, Cape Verde, the Czech Republic, France, Kosovo, Lithuania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia and The Netherlands are all also set to host International Olympic Committee-backed Olympic Festivals, per the SOC.
