The FIS freestyle aerials World Cup season started in Ruka today with Australian Laura Peel continuing her winning form from last season in the women's competition and Russian Maxim Burov leading a clean sweep in the men's event.

Peel, who was victorious in the final World Cup of last season in Krasnoyarsk in Russia, maintained her impressive form into the new campaign as she won with a score of 83.87.

Second place went to German Emma Weiss with a score of 80.95, while third went to Anastasiia Prytkova of Russia with 71.53.

Although Peel did not cleanly land her full, tuck, full manoeuvre, the higher degree of difficulty for her jump and her strong execution in the air enabled her to earn the narrow win, which she described as "amazing."

In the men's competition, Russia earned their first ever aerials podium sweep which included both Burov brothers on the podium.

Maxim Burov was victorious with a score of 126.24 with second place going to his compatriot Pavel Krotov with a score of 120.36.

Third place went to fellow Russian Ilia Burov with a score of 118.10, who earned the final podium position despite finishing with the same score as fourth-placed Oleksandr Abramenko of Ukraine.

Maxim Burov's winning score came courtesy of an impressive double full, full, full move with the winner saying he was "really happy" with his victory and adding it was "a great feeling" to earn the first yellow bib of the season.

Action continues in Ruka tomorrow with the first moguls World Cup of the season, where the skiers will take to the famed Battery Run for competition.
