ParaVolley Pan America has invited Central American countries to join the organisation to help develop the sport in the region.

Officials from the Central American Volleyball Confederation (AFECAVOL) and ParaVolley Pan America agreed to further cooperation during a meeting aimed at enhancing the profile of Para volley in Central America.

They outlined the requirements for membership and how National Paralympic Committees can establish dedicated Para volley organisations in their countries.

The talks follow an initiative from World ParaVolley and the International Volleyball Federation to develop Para volley across the world.

"AFECAVOL is taking the first step to establish a structure that will facilitate each national federation to be part of this valuable organisation responsible for planning and developing Para volley for athletes with physical disabilities," said AFECAVOL President Felix Sabio.

"After this historic step, a follow-up needs to be carried out by the AFECAVOL administrative secretariat in the next few days to making each member country to be affiliated with World ParaVolley Pan America a reality."

ParaVolley Pan America is one of four zonal associations which make up World ParaVolley, alongside corresponding bodies for Europe, Africa and Asia.

"I congratulate AFECAVOL and ParaVolley Pan America on this initiative that will provide greater opportunities for World ParaVolley membership and team and athlete development in the Pan American region," said World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner.

"This is a significant early development given that in 2028 the Paralympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in the United States."
