The Italian Baseball for the Blind League has confirmed it will hold a seven-team competition, with the event scheduled to conclude in October.

Teams will compete in two separate groups during the tournament.

Patrini Malnate, Thurpos Cagliari and Tigers Cagliari will participate in the west group, with Fortitudo Bologna White Sox, Leonessa Brescia, Roma and Perugia featuring in the east group.

Group play will be held using two round robins.

Each game will consist of seven innings, with a draw being ruled if teams are tied at the end.

The west group is scheduled to begin on September 5 in Cagliari, with the east group opening the following day.

The top two finishers of each league will advance to the semi-finals on October 3 and 4.

Should there be a tie, teams will play extra innings according to the tie-break rule in which every at-bat will begin with runners at second and third.

The final is scheduled to take place on October 10.

The final will be another seven-inning game and should teams are tied at the end, they will play as many extra innings as needed.

Both the semi-finals and final are set to take place in Bologna.

Italy has had a league in baseball for the blind since 1997, and the Italian Baseball Association for the Blind has been considered a leader in developing the sport.

This has included the organisation helping to implement the game in Argentina.
