The NOCSL are searching for social media ambassadors ©NOCSL

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) is looking for social media ambassadors to be part of the celebrations for this year's Olympic Day.

Scheduled to take place on June 23, the NOCSL is looking for people proficient in social media to share the adapted plans for this year's celebrations.

The country's event this year was scheduled to take place in Kalmunai in the east of the nation, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NOCSL has taken the decision to instead hold Olympic Day indoors at its headquarters at Olympic House in the capital of Colombo.

Since 1948, Olympic Day has been celebrated by National Olympic Committees around the world, commemorating the day that the International Olympic Committee was formed on June 23, 1894.

Instead of the mass participation event, Sri Lanka will host activities such as discussions and knowledge and experience sharing, with athletes and personnel meeting virtually.

As part of its initiative, the NOCSL will identify social media influencers from each of the 25 districts of the country to share and retweet content and activities from the day, who will serve as the social media ambassadors of the governing body.

Anyone over the age of 16 can apply for a position, as well as organisations which want to be part of the programme.

The closing date for applications is June 6.
