Karim Abdel Gawad of Egypt defeated compatriot Mohamed ElShorbagy in the final of the Channel VAS Championships at Saint George’s Hill in Weybridge in the United Kingdom. 

World number four Abdel Gawad edged past ElShorbagy 8-11, 11-3, 11-1, 10-12, 11-6 in a 90 minute battle, topping the podium to win the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Gold event. 

It was the 15th time that the pair met on the PSA Tour.

Both players are former world champions, with Abdel Gawad triumphing in 2016 and ElShorbagy in 2017.

"It felt great to play in that match, I think me and Mohamed haven’t played for a very long time in a final, since 2017 maybe," said Gawad.

"I’m really glad to be back and playing in finals with him. 

"He is an amazing athlete and is such an idol for everyone, a great player and very professional on and off court.

"I’m really happy to win such a prestigious title."
