Morocco, who are among the favourites to taste success at the inaugural International Basketball Federation AfroCan tournament, got their campaign off to a winning start.

They were 80-75 victors over Chad in Malian capital Bamako, Mohamed Choua starring in the Group C clash.

Choua scored eight points, racked up 10 rebounds and earned two assists and two steals.

In Group A, Algeria were 85-75 winners over Ivory Coast.

Group B saw a comfortable win for DR Congo, who triumphed 82-65 against Kenya.

There was an even wider margin of victory for Egypt, with Guinea swept aside 84-57 in Group D.

Twelve African nations are taking part in the competition, with hosts Mali, Angola, Nigeria and Tunisia not in action today.

The event was set up in a bid to give African players more opportunities to play in a major tournament.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.
