Netherlands all but earned a berth at this year's International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier after hammering debutants Germany at the ICC Women's Qualifier Europe in Murcia today.

The Dutch went on to suffer a narrow defeat against Scotland later in the day at La Manga Club, but their main job had already been done.

In March, Scotland had been named as the host nation of the ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier, meaning their participation was confirmed regardless of how they performed in the round robin event in the Spanish city.

It meant it was a straight battle between the Netherlands and Germany for the other spot and with the former winning and the latter losing against Scotland yesterday, today's result all but ensured success for the Dutch.

Chasing a target of 197, Germany, who were playing only their second Twenty20 International, managed just 65 from their 20 overs as the Netherlands won by 131 runs.

Sterre Kalis led the way for the Dutch, scoring an unbeaten 126 from 76 balls.

Today's second game saw Scotland beat the Netherlands in a one-over eliminator after the match finished tied.

The Dutch had earlier ended on 96-7 to equal the score posted by Scotland.

Kathryn Bryce was the Scots' most productive player with the bat with 34 runs from 39 balls.

The Netherlands' Babette de Leede managed an unbeaten 27 runs from 26 balls.

That score was matched by team mate Robine Rijke, whose knock came to an end on her 39th ball.

Action is due to conclude on Saturday (June 29) with Germany facing Scotland before going up against the Netherlands.

The winning team will secure a place at the 2020 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

Both Scotland and the Netherlands sit on four points but the latter is top of the standings by virtue of a better net run rate, plus-2.300 to plus-1.1681.
