Scotland had a mixed opening day at the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Qualifier Europe in Murcia, thrashing Germany before narrowly losing to The Netherlands.

The Scots needed just six overs to reach the lowly target of 38 against Germany, who were playing their maiden Twenty20 International.

Priyanaz Chatterji and Abtaha Maqsood were excellent with the ball and took five wickets between them at the Spanish city's La Manga Club.

Captain Sarah Bryce made sure the team easily achieved the target, scoring 19 runs off 16 balls.

There was disappointment for Scotland, however, against the Dutch.

Denise van Deventer top scored with 35 runs off 33 balls as The Netherlands finished on 123.

Chatterji finished on 26 not out but was unable to prevent a seven-run defeat for the Scots.

The winner of the double round-robin event will earn a berth at both the 2020 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier and this year's ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier.

In March, Scotland were named as the host nation of the latter event so their participation is confirmed regardless of how they perform in Murcia.

If the Scots win the tournament, the second-placed country will earn a spot at that event.

Action in Murcia is due to continue tomorrow.

The Netherlands face Germany before going up against Scotland for the second time.
