Brothers Robert and Edward Elmore made a successful start to the pairs event on the opening day of the 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championships at the Potters Resort in Norfolk.

The duo begun their campaign by beating fellow Englishmen Paul Maynard and James Rippey 7-2, 3-10, 2-0 in the preliminary rounds before defeating compatriots Paul Sharman and Mike Titcombe 13-0, 12-1.

They go through to face England’s Mark Royal and Andy Thomson tomorrow.

Also having joy in the pairs competition today were Australia’s Dave Rankin and Kyle McIlroy, who overcame the United States’ Dan LeMessurier and Mike McNorton 8-6, 10-4 prior to defeating Ireland’s Ian McClure and Derek Smith 4-5, 7-4, 2-0.

It earns them a meeting with the Scottish pairing of Darren Burnett and Stewart Anderson.

Singles, mixed pairs and under-25 competitions are also due to be held over the course of the 17-day event.

Action is scheduled to conclude on January 27.
