Great Britain's Lily Rhian Taylor and Joshua Masters both claimed home gold at the International University Sport Federation (FISU) World University Squash Championships at the University of Birmingham.

In the women's draw, Taylor faced South Africa's Alexa Pienaar in the final.

Pienaar overcame Britain's Grace Gear, top seed at the Championships, in the quarter finals but could not defeat Taylor.

Taylor, who had to overcome the second seed, Aika Azman, in the semi-final to challenge for the title, beat the South African player in three games.

The match lasted 26 minutes, with the score 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 for Taylor to secure the title.

Malaysia took both bronze medals through Aika Azman and Zoe Foo.

Gear ultimately finished fifth as she won her play-off matches.

In the men's event, Masters was triumphant for Britain, beating top seed Tsz Fung Yip for the title.

Masters lost the first game 11-8 but reversed the scores in the second to win by the same margin.

Masters then took the final two games 11-2 and 11-5 to secure the victory.

Hong Kong's Yip was the top seed going into the tournament.

The match lasted 44 minutes.

Malaysia took the bronzes again, this time through Addeen Idrakie and Syafiq Kamal.

Sanjay Singh of Malaysia was fifth.

The team event gets underway tomorrow with the final and medal ceremonies concluding on September 12.
