China’s domination continued at the 22nd  International Swimming Federation World Junior Diving Championships in Kyiv as they added two more titles today to take their overall medal tally to 12 gold, eight silver and one bronze with the final day to come.

But there were two new nations on the podium in this International Swimming Federation (FINA) event at the Liko Sports Centre as Sweden’s Emilia Nilsson took the bronze medal in the girls B-class springboard and the host nation Ukraine, represented by Yevhen Naumenko and Oleh Serbin, finished third in the boys A/B-class synchronised platform event.

Thus the number of medal-winning nations has risen to 12 - but in truth it has felt almost as if one nation were winning everything at a competition where divers are earning vital quota places for this year’s Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires from October 6 until 18.

China’s Li Zheng and Lian Junjie won the synchronised platform in crushing fashion with 328.44 points.

Lai Shiyun won the 3 metre springboard gold for China by an even bigger margin, finishing with 436.80 points.

Hailey Hernandez of the United States was a distant second on 380.80 points, with Nilsson third on 373.80.

Competition is due to finish tomorrow with the girls A/B 3m synchronised springboard and boys A-class platform events.
