Gymnastics finals provided one of the highlights on the fourth day of medal action at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla.

Five finals took place in the Centro Eventos Puerta de Oro venue in the Colombian city, with three men’s and two women’s titles up for grabs.

Guatemala’s Jorge Vega emerged as the winner of the men’s floor competition, as he achieved a score of 14.425 points. 

He was followed by Colombia’s Jossimar Calvo and Cuba’s Randy Leru, who managed scores of 13.875 and 13.650 points respectively.

Calvo upgraded to the gold medal in the men’s pommel horse event, as he achieved a score of 13.900 points. 

The podium was completed by Cuba’s Manrique Larduet and Dominican Republic’s Audrys Nin, whose efforts were rewarded with scores of 13.775 and 13.025 points respectively. 

Larduet, who was crowned men’s all-around champion earlier in the Games, topped the standings in the men’s rings event.

The Cuban scored 14.250 to secure the gold medal, with Mexico’s Fabian De Luna taking silver after finishing narrowly adrift on 14.225.

Calvo earned his third medal of the day, the home favourite scoring 13.600 points for the bronze medal.

Dominican Republic celebrated a gold medal in the women’s vault final as Yamilet Pena averaged a score of 14.250 points from her two efforts.

Cuba’s Marcia Vidiaux and Mexico’s Ahtziri Viridia Sandoval rounded off the top three with scores of 14.112 and 13.800 points respectively.

Sandoval later clinched the uneven bars title by achieving a score of 12.725 points, with Vidiaux taking her second silver of the day on 12.500.

Laura Pardo of Colombia was the bronze medallist on 12.325 points. 

Track cycling competition continued with an expected result in the men’s keirin, as world champion Fabian Puerta delighted the home crowd by taking the title ahead of Venezuela’s Hersony Canelon and Trinidad and Tobago’s Kwesi Browne.

Venezuela’s Angel Pulgar was crowned winner of the men’s scratch race, while Mexico and Cuba secured victories in the men’s and women’s team pursuit respectively.

A good day for Mexico continued with gold medals in the men’s and mixed doubles squash competitions, but their women’s doubles team settled for silver behind hosts Colombia.

Cuba clinched the men’s doubles table tennis title, while Puerto Rico earning the women’s honours.

Mexico extended their lead in the overall medals table as they moved onto 46 golds, with Colombia second on 36.

Cuba are third in the medal standings with 25 gold medals.

The Games are due to continue until August 3.
