A series of sporting events have been organised by the Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOC) to celebrate the World Day of Sports and Environment.

Around 100 children gathered in the Balkan Republic's capital city of Pristina to participate in a range of different sporting activities.

The day was organised by the KOC in close cooperation with Pristina Municipality.

Sports played included football as well as less formal disciplines including a sack race.

"Sport has an important role in positive changes that we can make in our society," said KOC President Besim Hasani.

"This is why we want to send a clear message that through sport activities we want to make these changes in the environment where our children practice sport."

The event also marked the planting of a second "Olympic tree" in the centre of Pristina to follow another planted the year before.
