Defending women's champions China battled to a 2-1 victory over second seeds Japan to move to the brink of the semi-finals at the Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup in Apeldoorn.

Huimin Huang completed a comprehensive 6-1, 6-0 win against Manami Tanaka in a match which had to be suspended yesterday due to rain to put China in front.

Japanese world number one Yui Kamiji then overcame Zhenzhen Zhu, the Chinese number one, with a 7-5, 6-2 success to level the contest at 1-1.

Kamiji's triumph sent the tie into a deciding doubles rubber, where she teamed up with Tanaka to face Huang and Zhu.

Japan took control of the match when they went 3-0 ahead but China rallied to clinch a 4-6, 6-4 10-3 win.

The victory all-but seals China's place in the last four as they will play Kenya, who lost to Japan earlier on at the tournament, tomorrow.

Matches are being played at the Tennis Club de Sprenkelaar and Tennis Club de Maten venues.

Host nation and top seed The Netherlands recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Switzerland to set up a meeting with France in the semi-finals.

The French team booked their semi-final spot with a 2-1 victory over Brazil.

In the men's tournament, 2017 bronze medallists Belgium claimed a 2-1 win against fourth seeds Argentina.

Jef Vandorpe took the first set of his match with Agustin Ledesma but struggled in the second before eventually emerging on the right side of a 6-0, 7-6 scoreline.

World number two Gustavo Fernandez did have to go to a deciding set against world number nine Joachim Gerard but managed to wrap up a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win to restore parity for Argentina.

Belgium then won the doubles match to complete an impressive victory.

They are set to face Britain for a place in the final after the top seeds swept aside China 3-0.

The tournament in the Dutch city continues tomorrow.
