World Series of Boxing (WSB) newcomers Indian Tigers will aim to keep their playoff dream alive as they host two matches this weekend at New Delhi’s Courtyard Complex.

Tomorrow’s action is due to see the Indian C2 weight category fighters take on the Patriot Boxing Team, who have already secured their spot among the best eight teams of the regular season with one contest to spare.

The Russians arrive in New Delhi after an impressive regular season, counting four victories and only one defeat on their record.

After facing the Patriot Boxing Team, the Tigers will then do battle with the China Dragons on Sunday (April 22) with the C1 weight category boxers jumping in the ring.

The WSB is a unique team boxing competition.

Beginning in February 2018, Season VIII sees 12 teams compete in three regional groups; America, Europe and Asia, with home and away matches, consisting of five bouts each, between the group rivals.

The top two teams from each group and the two strongest third-placed teams qualify for the play-offs, which assume the format of four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the grand final.

The WSB is described as a hard-fought competition of unparalleled intensity, speed and power, where boxers compete across five rounds, scored using the 10 points must system.

Season VIII features the stars of the 2017 International Boxing Association World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

WSB boxers accounted for 23 Olympic medals at the Games, including six golds.
