The Uzbek Tigers kept hold of second place in the Asian group of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) thanks to two victories over Caciques Venezuela at Alpomish Sport Majmuasi in what were the two teams’ final fights of the regular season.

Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov got the Uzbek Tigers off to a good start on home soil in Termez with a victory over Luis Jesus Polanco Vasquez, who was disqualified in the fourth round of the pair’s light flyweight fight.

Rio 2016 Olympic champion Shakhobidin Zoirov continued the strong start for the Tigers with a 3-0 win over Yoel Finol, the bronze medallist at those Games, in the bantamweight category.

Aliyor Noraliev then consolidated the Tigers win with a 3-0 win over Christiann Palacio in their light welterweight bout.

The two dead rubbers of the tie saw Israil Madrimov and Sanjar Tursunov beat Keiber Gonzalez and Juan Vicente Diaz Bello, respectively, by 3-0 scorelines in their middleweight and heavyweight matches, giving the Uzbek Tigers a 5-0 victory overall.

The second tie between the two teams ended in a similarly comfortable win for the Tigers.

As was the case in the light flyweight fight earlier in the day, the flyweight fight also ended with a Caciques fighter being disqualified in the fourth round.

This time it was Jesus Rojas who was ejected from the ring, handing Jasurbek Latipov the win.

The second fight then saw Shunkor Abdurasulo beat Luis Cabrera by a 2-1 scoreline in the lightweight bout.

Gabriel Maestre then restored some pride for Venezuela with a 3-0 win over Makhmud Gaipov in their welterweight bout.

This pride, however, was short-lived as Nalek Korbaj was disqualified in the first round of his light heavyweight fight against Bektemir Melikuziev, handing the Tigers the overall win.

The last match, which was a dead rubber, saw Bakhodir Jalolov knock-out Yordan Hernandez in the second round of their super heavyweight clash.
