The World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) have confirmed that the African Kickboxing Championships have been postponed until later this month.

The competition had been set to take place at the Palais des sports de Yaoundé in the Cameroonian capital, from March 19 to 24.

It has now been moved to between April 23 and 28 as the previous dates were deemed to be too close to political elections in the country.

In an open letter, President of the African Kickboxing Confederation Emmanuel Essissima said it was a great honour to be hosting the tournament.

"The African Kickboxing Championships is for Cameroon a great challenge that we have started to face for many years now," he said.

"We are ready to continue this challenge, by promising you a warm welcome, an organisation worthy of our participants and, above all, a great fight to raise the level of our fighters, and to contribute together to the development of our sport."

Essissima also thanked the Cameroonian Government for their support of the Championships and commented on the transport logistics of the tournament.

"The Cameroonian Federation of Kickboxing will take care of the transportation internally, for all participants, fighters, coaches and staff throughout the duration of the stay," he said.
